Once Upon a Time

Did you know Glyphosate was first patented tentedas a boiler & pipe cleaner ?

Glyphosate was used as a descaling agent from 1940s

After an accidental spill it was discovered to kill weeds and then marketed as a weedkiller ‘roundup’ 1970s

Councils and organisations started widely using glyphosate to treat weeds…

Early 2000s towns and cities in Europe (such as Copenhagen 2007) stopped the use of glyphosate due to health and environmental concerns.

2016 WHO announced glyphosate was a probable carcinogen to humans and carcinogen to animals. Was authorised but with advisory for minimum/restricted use

Many U.K. towns & cities immediately took the precautionary principle switching to safe alternatives

Many Councils chose to misinterpret this authorisation , choosing to ignore the advisory , interpreting as safe to use everywhere , in any amounts including around schools, health establishments and vulnerable people’s homes

Glyphosate for public spaces is the longest ever story which needs to end now.
