When Glyphosate for weedcontrol is discussed , it is often brought up that
It is still legal,
Used within statutory guidelines
An ‘acceptable level of risk’ &
people go on to make the inaccurate assumption it is safe …
Just because something is ‘legal’ does not necessarily mean it is safe!

Why should any risk (at all) be acceptable, especially when there are safe alternatives?
For some individuals any further risks to health are too much
Many progressive European towns have stopped Glyphosate use for weedcontrol , switching to safe alternatives like Hot Water or Foamstream
These countries haven’t necessarily had ‘laws’ in place .
They have simply taken a common sense approach when this toxic chemical has been used in public spaces and chose to stop using
Where there is (any) doubt to a chemicals safety , (any) debate & in the absence of absolute proof the precautionary principle is the sensible solution .
Why continue to use something (unnecessarily) that is KNOWN to damage health and environment right up until the time it is officially made unlawful ?
When we can just make the changes right now
We wouldn’t need new rules , regulations & laws if each individual or council took responsibility and applied a sensible approach to such matters.
Laws are only necessary when we fail to do this .
Often by the time governments make rules regulations & laws it is too late for many and the irreversible damage is done.
That’s why it is VERY important to take your own precautions steps
If your outside Balerno
Ask your council NOT to apply Glyphosate or any other harmful chemical around your home. Offer to remove the weeds yourself and thus eliminate ANY risk to you or your loved ones Health.
