Spring has sprung , signalling positivity for us all, with lighter, longer days & the start of flourishing nature BUT not for City of Edinburgh Council where it’s time to start applying Poison to our Pavements.
Thankfully in Balerno , our community took matters into their own hands and with the council’s agreement Balerno has been Pesticide Free since 2020! Residents in Balerno do not want their money spent on Glyphosate or any HARMFUL TO HEALTH CHEMICALS, especially when there are safe alternatives to remove our weeds.
Balerno thankfully , is a community that not only values nature but works to purposefully protect it! By taking responsibility for this issue the community of Balerno has benefitted with reports of resolved health issues and increased biodiversity.
With so much negativity in the world as of recent , it is lovely that the Balerno community since 2020 have continued to positively illustrate to other communities that coming together on this matter, makes such a difference to health and the environment.
Well done Balerno , we have shown the council that what was impossible , is in fact entirely possible.
Other communities want to protect their most vulnerable too and we do hope after the councils many years of delay and denial, they decide to finally invest in substantial safe alternatives for use not only in Balerno but citywide.
